How Our Maternal Health Program Saved a Life

Amina’s Story of Strength, Survival, and Safe Birth

In a remote village outside of Wau, South Sudan, Amina—a 22-year-old first-time mother—was facing the most vulnerable moment of her life. With no nearby hospital, limited access to medical care, and a difficult pregnancy, her chances of a safe delivery were uncertain.

Thankfully, Amina’s local health post had recently received maternal delivery kits through South Sudan Aid’s Maternal & Child Health Program. These kits included essential items like sterile gloves, a clean delivery mat, umbilical cord clamps, gauze, and antiseptics—simple tools that can mean the difference between life and death for mothers and newborns.

When Amina went into labor, a trained birth attendant used the delivery kit to ensure a clean, safe environment for childbirth. Both Amina and her baby girl, Fatima, survived and are now thriving.

This is not an isolated case. Through partnerships with clinics and midwives across underserved regions, our maternal health initiative is reducing complications, infections, and infant mortality—one safe birth at a time.

But many more women still need help.

By supporting this program, you help equip frontline healthcare workers with the tools they need to protect mothers and babies—just like Amina and Fatima.
